A half-day for slow walking

Beihai Park rewards a slower pace. Water, islands, pavilions and tree cover change continuously, and it is easy to photograph the White Pagoda without understanding the relationship between the hill and the lake. Build the route around Qionghua Island and the White Pagoda, then add the lakeside or Five-Dragon Pavilions according to your energy. Allow about three hours as an editorial suggestion, not a personal report.

Park hours and inner gardens

The official Beihai Park website currently lists peak season as 1 April to 31 October. The park is open from 06:00 to 21:00 and stops admission at 20:30. Inner gardens and small courtyards are open from 08:00 to 18:00 and stop admission at 17:30. In the low season, from 1 November to 31 March, the park is open from 06:30 to 20:00 and stops admission at 19:30; inner gardens and small courtyards are open from 08:30 to 17:00 and stop admission at 16:30.

The official site provides online ticketing, route suggestions, visitor notices and boat-service links. This research did not stably confirm the current price for the inner garden containing the White Pagoda, boat departures or the day's temporary closures. Do not copy an old price into your budget. Check the official site before leaving. Its homepage publishes temporary closure, reopening and conservation notices; current notices take priority.

From Qionghua Island to the White Pagoda

From a southern or eastern entrance, begin by following the lake edge and looking at the island outline before climbing toward Qionghua Island. The White Pagoda is the visual centre. From a distance it explains the relationship between the pagoda, water and the city; up close, the rocks, courtyards and steps become the subject. Judge your energy before climbing, and take care on wet or snowy steps.

After the pagoda area, return toward the water and shift your attention from one landmark to the shoreline. Lotus season, autumn colour and winter water create different scenes, but flowering periods and access must not be written as guarantees. Check whether related services and boat operations are available that day.

Choosing the Five-Dragon Pavilions

If time allows, use the Five-Dragon Pavilions as a second observation point. Their position by the water makes it easy to compare the lake surface, shore and buildings. If your companions prefer less walking, keep only the lake edge and Qionghua Island; there is no need to force a full circuit. A boat can change the viewpoint, but operating time, price and weather conditions must be checked on site.

Linking with Shichahai

After Beihai Park, Shichahai can be a separate walking segment. Confirm your exit and transport first, then decide whether the weather and energy allow more lakeside walking. Street conditions, construction and businesses change quickly, so this guide does not recommend an unverified shop or promise a fixed budget. In the park, keep quiet, do not feed animals, and do not climb old buildings, rocks or railings.
