Give Lingyin a relaxed morning rather than squeezing the temple, surrounding hills and West Lake into one short outing. This guide concerns Lingyin in Hangzhou, Zhejiang. Allow roughly three to four hours on site, excluding travel from your accommodation; this is an editorial planning estimate.

Secure your reservation before travelling

A February 2026 notice on the temple’s official website says on-site admission registration for Lingyin Feilai Peak Scenic Area ended on February 1. It directs visitors to the “Hangzhou Lingyin Feilai Peak” mini-program on WeChat or Alipay. The notice allows bookings up to seven days ahead and requires a reservation voucher and an original valid identity document. A waitlist request is not a confirmed place. Check the official booking screen for the rules applying to your visit.

If you use a passport, check the document options early and contact the official service if you cannot complete the form. Save your confirmation while retaining a way to access the live booking. For navigation, use 杭州灵隐寺; the official address is 1 Fayun Lane, Lingyin Road, Hangzhou.

Orient yourself, then explore the temple slowly

At arrival, consult the visitor map and identify the temple entrance and currently accessible paths. The wider scenic area includes both the temple and Feilai Peak, so arriving at the scenic-area entrance does not mean you have reached every attraction.

Follow the posted visitor direction through the temple grounds. Look first at the arrangement of buildings, then at rooflines, stonework and courtyard details. Spending time in a few courtyards is more rewarding than rushing between halls. Leave space for worshippers and follow photography notices, particularly during religious activities.

Add Feilai Peak only if time and energy allow

Hangzhou’s tourism authority describes Feilai Peak’s limestone landscape and historic cliff carvings. If these interest you, add a separate section before or after the temple, adjusting the order to your booking, crowds and on-site routes. Read the interpretation panels and do not touch or climb carvings.

The photographs here show Lingyin’s temple buildings, not Feilai Peak’s carvings. If time is short, keep the temple as the main visit rather than rushing uphill to complete a checklist.

Meals, companions and weather
